MARIKA'S EXCHANGE YEAR
What do I gain from an exchange year?
What does it give me?
I will point out what the exchange year will give me:
-
The ability to cope in a completely unfamiliar environment. When I go to the exchange year, I will be completely alone in a foreign country and I will have to manage there. Such a skill will be very useful in the future life.
-
A very good opportunity to learn a language. Yes, you don't have to travel to the country whose language you are learning, but it is the most effective way to learn the language. Living in a French-speaking environment every day, I learn the language very well.
-
Broaden your horizons. Students who have gone through an exchange year have always been very good conversational partners with a very wide circle of friends.
-
The opportunity to experience the culture of a completely new country. As a big culture enthusiast, I think that this is also a big part of the change year. All this new food, traditions, music and festivals seem so interesting to me.
-
Courage. This experience definitely provides enough, the courage to try new things and the courage to go out of the comfort zone are just a few examples of this.
-
The ability to be entrepreneurial. This is what it gives especially to young people who are looking for supporters - like me, because we try new things (like, for example, I have never done a website before in my life) and find many different solutions.
What does it do to the people around me?
I will point out what the new year brings to the people around me, i.e. to society:
-
When I come back, I can organize various events related to France and the French language
-
More young people who are experienced, multilingual and enterprising will live in Estonia. I, together with all the young people of Estonia, are the future of this country, and you decide what that future will be?
-
After my exchange year, I can start teaching French to others as well.
